Why Invest in STF?

Simply put, we have the knowledge and experience the others don’t. The most significant factor that sets us apart from every other technology fund out there is our extensive experience with start-up companies. Since 1996 the Executive Team has been exclusively dedicated to the success of more than 60 new and exciting IT and Telecom companies. Since 1996, we have sourced, negotiated, placed and managed 25 separate initial investments for the TARA Fund along with another 10 conversions or reinvestments. From that experience, we have gained valuable insight into what makes one company rise to the top and another fall by the wayside. Experience has shown that poor management is ultimately the main cause of start-up failure with marketing ability, funding capacity and product characteristics sharing the next three places of importance in the early assessment of potential. In essence, we believe that a start-up company which has relative ease of access to experienced business and technical personnel, state-of-the-art technology and early stage capital will have a significant competitive advantage and, through our relationship with TARA, we are in the unique and enviable position of being able to make sure each of those criteria are met or surpassed.

In addition, the competitive marketplace for early stage IT/Telecom investments in Eastern Canada is favourable. Across the current Atlantic Canadian investment landscape we have yet to experience a lack of good opportunities for evaluation. Our initial investments are typically at the $100,000 to $500,000 level, a niche that follows 'friends-and-family' but precedes institutional investors, effectively making us the first professional fund managers to closely examine these opportunities.
